Last month, my client closed on her first home. She was so excited and like most first time home buyers; she wanted to decorate her new space. It was the renovated kitchen that “sold” her on the home. Next to the kitchen was the dining room. The home is an open floor plan; the kitchen is open to the entire front living space, which is the living room and dining area.

My client works in tech and she loves culture, travel, and good food. Her career in tech set the scene for a modern design foundation. The house is located in a walkable city. It’s close to restaurants and shops. These characteristics leans into the Bohemian Lifestyle. The Bohemian lifestyle is all about getting comfortable. They’re free-spirited and loves culture - like my client! Incorporating her favorite color, gray, we selected a palette that complemented the open and airy feel of the home while adding warmth and depth. Accents in gold, dark green, and burnt orange were introduced through planters, foliage, and wall art. These colors perfectly complemented the gray base and brought a cozy, inviting feel to the room. Lighting played a crucial role in tying the modern and Bohemian elements together. We opted for a large industrial-style pendant light over the dining area.

The open floor plan provided a blank canvas to infuse modern elements with Bohemian charm. To achieve this, we chose furniture with clean lines and functional design, ensuring that each piece not only served a purpose but also added to the overall aesthetic of the space. For instance, a sleek, modern banquette was paired with a textured, round pedestal table and wire-framed dining chairs.

The final design plan not only catered to the client's modern sensibilities and love for culture but also created a space that felt uniquely hers. It's a place where she can unwind after a busy day at work, host dinners with friends, or simply enjoy the comfort of her beautifully designed home. The result is a harmonious blend of modern design and Bohemian lifestyle, perfectly suited to both her personality and the vibrant city that surrounds her.
