As the weather gets warmer, I wanted to extend my patio. It’s never felt completed. On the right side of the house was empty space. It felt as though the backyard was craving symmetry.

The Design Plan

I was inspired by my idea of Morocco. Full transparency, I’ve never been to Morroco. This design plan was a vision of what my “Moroccan Inspired” backyard would look like (on a budget). In addition, I wanted it to feel elevated while not breaking the bank. The goal was to achieve indoor/outdoor living creating a living space using upholstered furniture, round coffee and side tables, a decorative rug and pillows that could be used indoors as well. Unfortunately, the slipcovered sofa from Pottery Barn was higher than my budget. In true form, I stayed with a black and white color scheme and purchased a modern set from Home Depot. To me, it’s traditional but can be modern as well. This color scheme is the foundation of my entire home.

To give a little back story; the left side of the patio was completed about 6 years ago with a fire pit, Adirondack chairs, and a lounge area which created a cozy conversation area. Great for those Summer nights roasting s’mores!

The middle of the patio is the dining area perfectly located near the grill and the garden cart which we use as a serving area for food and beverages. I keep the tablescape simple for the dining area by using items that I already have. Whether its a tablecloth, napkins, placements, plates, or glassware - although simple, it should still look high-end.

Before installing the gazebo, we extended the patio an additional 250 square feet. My backyard faces West so it gets the hot afternoon sun. We didn’t have a comfortable spot during the day to stay out of the sun. Even with an umbrella; that wasn’t enough. So, my idea was to add a covered sitting area in the empty space on the right side of the house. When envisioning the extension, I knew I wanted a covered structure with walls and counter top. I stumbled upon this gazebo by Yardistry; it checked all of the boxes. The gazebo has a custom feel but its a kit the was purchased from Costco! The gazebo is very sturdy. For the bar counter, I ordered 4 Serena and Lilly inspired french bistro barstools in black and white.

To customize the gazebo further; 2 wall sconces were added to the outside of the gazebo to create ambience and a little light in the evening. I’ve had theses sconces forever sitting in a box in my basement waiting for this project. I’m still searching for the right light fixture to go inside the gazebo. Until then, I will use solar string lights.

The final phase is the pool plan along with 2 chaise loungers and umbrella on the other side of patio for a resort feel.

I love this design and can’t wait to get started. It’s beginning to look a lot like Summer!!!!
